Noise Pollution

The rumble caused by the rebuilding secondary school project opposite my house is torturing me recently. I cannot enjoy TV program and sleep well. When I was listening radio, I wonder I was listened the song or the large and ear-piercing sound which came from the school.

I realized that noise pollution is quite a serious problem. Noise, as opposed to sound generally, is undesirable. For example, a band playing at full volume is as load and noisy as many machines, but to most people, it is far more pleasant.

Noise can be measured by a sound-level indicator which records sound in units called decibels. The reading on such an indicator in a quiet city house in the midnight might be 32 decibels; a soft whisper within 5 feet might be 34 decibels; while a ringing alarm clock in 2 feet away could be60 decibels. Anything over 100 decibels over an extended period can cause inflammation of the stomach and brain like headache, eye trouble and possibly permanent damage to the ear.   

One of the main causes of noise in big cities today, especially near the airports, is the airplane. People who live near airports are generally affected. For example, those people who live near the London airport have requested the government to make their homes sound-proof.

How I wish my home also has this sound-proof facility as my home is quite near the airport and the most serious problem is that annoying rebuilding project opposite my house!!!  

Urbanization

Urbanization means the overpopulation phenomenon of the cities.  This situation is serious in Malaysia as well as in the other nations. In recent years, there has been an alarming growth of the population of cities in most of the countries in Asia. This causes in change in the traditional division of society.

Those capable young men whose specific aim is to get work move from the countryside to large cities. They save a sufficient a sufficient sum of money and return to their own village. Although they live in the cities, they constantly return to their homes in their villages for such occasions as marriages, funerals and others important events.

However, generally in many cases, work is scare and the salary is poorly paid because of there are too many people required these works. These people live under appalling conditions, in extremely crowded surrounding. For example, western cities such as New York and Chicago have a high population of more than 25,000 people per square mile. London has 35,000 people per square mile.

The situation in Asian cities are even worse, Calcutta, with a population density of 80,000 people per square mile. Jakarta is currently increasing its population through immigration of the rate of 500 persons a day.

The human misery can be caused by these conditions. The stability of these countries may be affected by the overpopulation in cities. People have to live in crowded, competitive and hasty surrounding. Will they live happily?

Water Pollution

The pollution of water is a very serious matter. Although some of the dissolved minerals in the water are essential for our body, there are others added to it by the activities of man which are harmful to human and animal life.

Industry pours the chemical contaminants such as compounds of mercury, lead, detergents and so on into the water systems. At the same time, the need for increased agricultural production to feed the growing population requires the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers. These cause pollution of not only rivers, streams, and lakes, but also the underground water which is almost impossible for purification.

In some places where public health standards are low, sewage is dumped into rivers and sea. This leads to pollution of these waters. On top of all this, there is a lot of oil spilt by oil tankers, either through carelessness or accidents. This affects marine life along the coasts. Unfortunately, so far not enough has been done to stop this kind of pollution.

People keep polluting our water systems; they do not feel that the polluted water systems caused any impacts to them because they always have clean water to use; no matter they know these water pollution problems. I guess they will really know and realize the water pollution problems which caused by themselves until one day, sewage flowed from the tap water.  

What can be done to damage the environment to meet the needs of development?

The important of environment is that to ensure human have balance essential needs such as air, water and foods. Nature life and will be healthier if we have a clean and good environment for our humans and wildlife. Moreover, destructive action to environment like deforestation will lead to loss on earth protection, sand protection when meet the strong sand wind. Environment also can protect the balance natural.

Development is the process of improvement in human ability and wealth. Nowadays, people are more care about their environment after unusual disaster happening currently. However, majority population not makes sense and even not care about that. Most of human are selfish, they tend to develop their country or area either for profit motive or welfare for national. At the same time, they had destroyed our lovely earth and environment.

For example, those countries with less trees and natural reserved area like Hong Kong and Singapore. They have to protect the environment in the countries, policies for applying factory must be cautious and timid and considering for long term too. Also, they have to control the movement of developing in order to balance the damage level towards our earth and reduce the impact like floods, sand storms, and global warming. Trees play an important role to reduce those impacts. They are treasures for us but we had seriously damaged them.

In last, I really hope that we have more trees and a clean environment even in urban areas. I dread to see those trees in urban areas or in forests disappeared gradually ><

Review of Tsunami-The Aftermath

The movie revealed the aftermath of the tsunami which occurred at the coast of Thailand in 2004 especially Khao Lak and Phuket. The young English couple, Ian and Susie were trying hard to find their young daughter, Martha. She was separated from his father by the tsunami. I still remembered the scene that Ian hold Martha’s hand tightly but Martha still swept away by the wave. Ian shouted at his daughter, “ hold on, Martha! Hold the tree on, good job…” The he was hit by a stone which knocked him out of his conscious. On the other hand, Martha still holding the tree. I almost cry! Where is Martha? The little girl who had successfully hold the tree, why the people can’t find her? My lovely Martha><

At the same time, an English woman called Kim Peobody and her son, Adam, both of them were looking for James (the father) and John (the eldest brother). They all were helpless, but they can’t get help from the British official. The ambitious reporter can’t accept the Thai monks who burned the bodies of the victims. We can see the different views between Thai and Western people. Thai people think that body was just the shell of the soul and western people think that it is unacceptable.

Meanwhile, a Thai people was arrested by police because they thought that guy had stolen the tourist’s bracelets which actually from his grandma. This part highlights the unreasonable attitude of the Thai police. I hope the British officer in real life was helpful and kind because when such as this natural disaster happened, they played an important role to help their national.

Lastly, I wish that Martha was found by his parents!        

               

Review of South Park ( Whales Wars ) ~~~

I like this cartoon, I like  Poker Face too, is nice :]
This cartoon highlights the Japanese dolphins  hunt in an extreme way. When Stan and his family getting closer with the dolphins in the Denver Aquarium, the pool turn bloody when the Japanese attack those dolphins ! They kill all the dolphins and this crazy and senseless killing seems to be no end . Therefore Stan decided to save the dolphins ......
I think this video insults the Japanese. It made the Japanese look cruel and stupid. In the end, the Japanese killed cows and chickens at the same way they killed the dolphins and whales. Stan's father thanks him for make them "normal". Obviously, they think  that the Japanese are cruel and not normal.
Whales and dolphins are more friendly and intelligent than other animals, as well as humans such as you, or if you really enjoy them being killed for no good reason, you will realised that you were wrong in one day when you and your children can't see any dolphins in any aquariums, wild channel and and documentary ><

Review of The Cove ~~~

The Cove is a documentary film that analyses Japan's dolphin hunting culture.The film highlights the fact that the number of dolphins killed in one specific cove in Taiji, Japan approximately 23,000 every year. Yes, that is 23,ooo dolphins !!! The film argues that dolphin hunting in Taiji is cruel and unnecessary.  Futhermore,  the amount of mercury that is found in these creature, they are partically poison . Here the problem comes, these poison meat can be labeled as "whale meat" and then dumped into numerous market. Such a cute and beautiful species of mammal is being killed , at the same time,  a fishing industry poisons its  customers. "Amazing" !

Maybe you can say it is just a businesses, because nearly all of the world's  "show dolphins" come from Taiji . But I think this really is a heartbreaking documentary ><  This story needs to be told and spread the world before it is too late. As we know, dolphins are becoming fewer in number. Japanese harvest them and eat them, that would be bad if it was the real cause of dolphins distinction !

For me, I would like my children's children to be able to experience the wild dolphin in the future. Every time we as humans allow or cause many species to become extinct. Dolphins are the "humans" of the sea. Please treat them with respect , thanks! I really don't want to say good-bye to my dear dolphins >< !
